Vessel
A bone white coracle,
the misshapen moon bobs up
in the sky at dusk
Guga, bright guga,
sleep safe on your rock stac ledge
high in the sky’s dark ocean
A gannet bladder
filled with fulmar oil – the moon hangs
bulbous and pale
Like a cowrie shell
or infant skull, the moon drifts off
over the Sound
Matins is one of seven poems I’m working on just now. They’re linked to the canonical hours & the idea of marking each of them with something to be celebrated or lamented.
